Starting Aug. 1, bus riders will be paying more for a fine ride on a Sun Tran around town.
Transit Fare Increase Approved, Sun Tran news release
TUCSON, Ariz. – At a public hearing held yesterday, City of Tucson Mayor and Council voted to approve a transit
fare increase effective August 1, 2009.
Sun Tran’s one-way full fare will increase from $1 to $1.25, the express fare from $1 to $1.50, and the day pass from $2 to $3. Sun Van’s one-way full fare
will increase from $2 to $2.50. All economy fares remain unchanged for both systems.
I’ve never ridden a Sun Tran, but $1.25 still seems reasonable for a fare.
New York City subways and buses are up to $2 per ride. But then again, each NYC ride comes with a full comedy show.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen on a Tucson bus?
The day of the UA College of Nursing shooting I rode the E Speedway (#4) bus home from my job at the College of Medicine. At the Tucson Blvd stop a high-school aged kid boarded the bus wearing a full sized metal sword stuck through his belt (the point reached to his ankle). After being invited out of my building by an armed member of the SWAT team earlier that day, the presence of the sword made me very uncomfortable. I called SunTran to complain about the kid being allowed to board the bus and their very non-chalant replay was that the sword was not a “concealed” weapon…
OH, man!
That tops even some of the stuff I’ve seen on the subway. How crazy.
What makes it even funnier is that we were getting calls from a couple who were having problems taking their pet stroller on board a Sun Tran.
