If we are to continue to believe the argument that illegal aliens are harmless lost souls who deserve a better life here in America, than we must apologize for the recent deportation of two of them.

Adios, fugitives, we hope your stay was dandy/Thinkstock
Both fugitives from Mexico, one was wanted for murder and the other for sexual assault in two unrelated crimes in their homeland.
Julian Aguirre-Palacios, 33, and Tomas Gerardo Velazquez-Bonilla, 33, both of whom fled Mexico and somehow sneaked into the United States, were arrested and deported Nov. 5, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Aguirre-Palacios is wanted in Naco, Sonora, Mexico, for the September homicide of a 16-year-old girl who was beaten and thrown down a flight of stairs.
Velazquez-Bonilla is wanted in Las Lomas De Tokya, Sinaoloa, Mexico, for sexual assault. No further details were offered on his alleged crime except to say it was a “young victim.” We shudder to think of age range possibilities.
Aguirre-Palacios was arrested in Phoenix Oct. 27 and had to suffer through sitting around in the custody of Customs Enforcement Detention and Removal Operations (ICE-DRO) until his deportation order came through. We do hope he was well fed.
He was tracked down through tips from Sonora State Investigative Police (PEI) and the Attorney General of Mexico, Regional Legal and Law Enforcement Attaché.
Velazquez-Bonilla, perhaps not as crafty as his fellow countryman, had already been in ICE custody. He could have easily been sent back to Mexico a free man had the U.S. Marshals Mexican Investigative Liaison (MIL) Unit not found him and mentioned his sexual assault charges.
The news release quote:
“U.S. Marshals and our law enforcement partners on both sides of the border worked together to arrest two fugitives accused of particularly heinous crimes,” said David Gonzales, United States Marshal for the District of Arizona, “hopefully, a grieving family and a young victim will find justice.”
Please note: This article contains sarcasm as we are exhausted with the wholly annoying and misinformed argument that illegal aliens are harmless lost souls who deserve a better life here in America.
[tnipoll]
What do you think?
Do you believe the argument that illegal aliens are harmless lost souls who deserve a better life here in America?
What should be done about this issue?
I wonder what the percentage of criminals there are among legal Anglos versus illegal aliens…..my guess is not much difference. Thus making the point that some illegal aliens are also criminals is just as misleading as claiming all illegal aliens are just coming to America to work.
good point, hugh – that’s why i’m using such an argument to combat the one that all illegal aliens are just coming to america to work.
both ridiculous? you bet.
there is one side point, however – illegal aliens all start off as criminals technically, no?
wish we did have stats on the question you pose. would be very interesting.
thanks for comment.
The illegals are coming here for the work. When the recessions hits they are bugging out. They look at this country as a big job market with a bunch of evil white people in charge.
Somebody is creating crime? Who is it then? Over 50% of the crime in Tucson is being committed by who?? You can say it. It wont hurt. Watch the news lately? Its Hispanics, whether legal or not. They seem to have a problem with that. Not very PC to say the truth, is it.
It could also be factually stated that over 50% of the crime in Tucson is perpetrated by males, or by people under the age of 50, or by people making less than $50,000/year, or by people who had a drink in the last month. Yet you focus on the ethnic status of the persons arrested. So, are you now going to carry on a pogrom against males; people under 50; alcohol drinkers; lower income earners? Or, will you just continue to attribute an inherent criminal propensity to Latinos? Because this is what you are, in fact, saying.
Yes. If that who is commiting the crime why should we hide that fact. Who do you think does this. North Dakota farmers?
Sitting here watching the news and reading the Tucson Citizen. ALL of the criminal activities, robbery, murder etc were commmitted by the types I have mentioned. Just never changes.
That someone who commits a crime should sneak across an international border in an attempt to avoid capture is evidence that everyone who comes across the border is similar in intent? Anne Frank was an ‘illegal’ also. Does this mean all ‘illegals’ are cute, young Jewish girls?
Tomorrow you and I could be ‘illegal’.
you thought anne frank was cute? hey! i thought you didn’t know what ‘cute’ was if i remember a past comment correctly….hahahah
Anne Frank would have gladly self deported…..
ha!
the Anne Frank comment was moronish at best.
Rynski, you have a point – all illegal aliens start off as criminals…crossing into this country illegally is breaking federal law so right out of the gate they have a strike against them; regardless of their intent to simply find a better life.
America has enough of her own criminals; we do not need to import more.
The government will never step up and do what needs to be done to secure our borders. Oddly, Iran can find hikers who mistakenly cross over the border, but we can’t find the thousands that cross ours….what does Iran know about border security that we don’t??
the Anne Frank comment was moronish at best.
Moronish because ‘It can’t happen here?’. Don’t be so sure. Once you start down that road of demonizing a diverse group of people based on a shared characteristic anything can happen. When you create this hatred, you can’t necessarily control it once it builds and gets uglier. It develops a self-perpetuating life of its own.
You mean demonizing groups of criminals? Yes, murderers all share the characteristic of being murderers. Unlike being Hispanic or Jewish or Italian murderers and other criminals make a choice to be part of the group. It is perfectly okay to dislike groups who have made noxious choices.
And I am not even going to get into the outrageousness of comparing people like Anne Frank who was murdered for her religion with illegal aliens who…if caught…get to fly back to Mexico or wherever else they came from.
The similarity going on here is the demonization of Jews in the one case and Mexicans in the other case. I don’t see the same vitriol that you direct towards the migrant being directed towards other people guilty of crimes of similar magnitude. The comparison I am making has not to do with Anne Frank’s eventual fate, but with the process of demonization that started in Germany the same way that the demonization of Mexicans has started here. Once you let this genie out of the bottle, you can’t control him as well as you think you might.
Pure Bull. The Jews were not jumping fences to get into Germany!
thanks for input, for the love of country.
the anne frank example frequently pops up in illegal alien discussions – it’s best ignored.
i do like leftfield, however, and he often makes some very good points.
your points are good, too – esp. example of other countries – or even neighboring states – who do have that thing called border security. also agree we have enough of our own criminals here legally, as hugh also brought up, and don’t need any imports.
the anne frank example frequently pops up in illegal alien discussions – it’s best ignored.
I’ll bet the smae phrase, “It’s best ignored”, also came up in reference to Jewish complaints about anti-Jewish attitudes in Germany in the thirties. What can’t be ignored is the danger in what is going on in this country. Times are scary and people are looking for a scapegoat.
Yeppers – all “illegals” are just like rapists and murderers. And those jews are cheats who carry disease – could we get a few more columns on them ?
If you are looking for tips on how to write columns scapegoating people, you should check out this guy – he did a great job.
Kaavya Viswanathan, Goebbels, both great writers right? Except one is a thief and the other an out and out liar…let it never be said that you don’t let an inconvenient truth get in your way or ever pass up a chance to use that tunnel vision of yours.
What term is a better (more politically correct) way to describe an illegal alien? I would really like to know. To me, if they’re illegal they are breaking the law. If you don’t like the law, then change it. If you’re not going to change it, then enforce it. That is the issue, period.
hi lightningtamer,
i actually posted a poll a bit back asking what people’s preferred term was – the ‘new pc’ is supposed to be ‘undocumented aliens’ – here are the poll results:
What’s your preferred term for those entering the country without proper procedure?
Illegal immigrants
Illegal aliens
Undocumented aliens
People who just want, and deserve, a better life in the U.S.
Other – please explain in comment section of post.

PEW Hispanic Center estimates over 7 million illegal invaders hold American jobs. The only way an illegal can work here is by committing one or more felonies, except day labor. To work here one must lie on an I-9 form, use stolen and/or forged IDs or fail to pay income tax(paid under the table). Ergo the vast majority of illegal invaders are serious criminals.
And there are chuckleheads who are actually thinking about “immigration reform” to allow these folks to stay an maybe become citizens!! Treason.
And there are chuckleheads who are actually thinking about “immigration reform” to allow these folks to stay an maybe become citizens
Actually there are no “chuckleheads” that want criminals to come here and become citizens – we all want criminals arrested.
There are some “chuckleheads”, however, that cannot distinguish between the hardened criminals in the fourth grade and simple less threatening 2nd grade criminal illegal aliens.
that is interesting, estoban – i didn’t even think of the illegal finagling involved in getting hired for anything other than day labor/cash only gigs.
…now let’s wait for someone to argue that those that do the finagling are forced into it because they need a job to survive – so it’s not their fault they falsify documents and such – they have no other choice (hahahahaha).
p.s. to fraiser – ‘chuckleheads’ is a beautiful word.
thanks, both, for input.
What do you call someone who breaks into your house, rapes and kills your family? A criminal. I hope you never have to experience crime (legal or illegal criminals) because crime respects no one.
very true, dollarshort. and even dinky little ‘simple less threatening’ crimes can be a gateway into bigger and better illegal activities – just like all those junkies can start off their addiction careers with a simple and less threatening sip of beer, perhaps…
Welcome back. Everyone else made good enough points.
thanks alan in kent, wa!
yes, some very good points made, for sure.
This is all getting a little too much like the movie “Hotel Rwanda” wherein a bigoted radio host starts convincing people that a certain group of people is responsible for all the troubles in their country. The hate builds on itself, feeding on fear. In the end, a massacre results. If you are feeding into this hate, you should know where this can go. You certainly can advocate for immigration reform or enforcement of current immigration law without stoking the fires of resentment against other people.
WTF does Ann Frank have to do with local hispanics who commit crime or illegal aliens who do or will later. Nazis who killed six million Jews along with millions of others have NO comparsion with illegals who come here for work then stay here illegally.
Nazis who killed six million Jews along with millions of others have NO comparsion with illegals
Well, you’re exactly right, fraser: there is no comparison between migrants and Nazis. However, there is a comparison between the relentless scapegoating of migrants by the right wing in this country and the relentless scapegoating of Jews by the Nazis.
Thanks, leftfield – great comment.
Illegal immigration os long over due. Politicians have hid it too long.
Like health care reform, it is too big to tackle with positive results: close off the border? (how many billions have we thrown at it to get what we now have – is it
working?), what to do with the estimated 12-15 million illegals here? (round them up? – not going to happen). Amnesty? (possibly, but not popular politically or with the populace). Nothing? (this one is historically popular).
Tea-publicans want less government, cut spending (say goodbye to the fence, National Guard and Border Patrol (increases)).
By far, the majority who cross illegally are looking for better life – but that very act makes them criminals. So are drug users (pot, cocaine, crack and perscription abusers), all criminals (friends, relatives, coworkers and you), but only a fraction are ever arrested and fewer prosecuted. Outcry? None.
I’m wondering when Government (US and AZ) will ever realize there is an active war zone right at our southern borders, yet our military is halfway around the world trying to fight a B/S war that we should not be in.

For illegal aliens you can raise my taxes. Worth it in the end.
Exterminate all criminals……….don’t just send them across the border !!!
Shall we start with underage kids caught with a beer or the guy who fudges a little on his taxes? Technically, they’re criminals too.
Is Communism criminal?
No, but making use of the varied definition of the word, capitalism is certainly criminal.
Mexico, take your people back. We dont want them. End of story. Enough allready.
Texas, secede already and take your people back. We don’t want them and they think they’re too good for the rest of us anyway.
