This fun Odd Pueblo feature asks the audience to rate a trend, topic or sighting of something around town: is it snappy or crappy?
The last snappy or crappy, a gorgeous T-Rex, was a giant snappy.
The latest snappy or crappy can go either way – vanity license plates. I became addicted to looking at license plates after years of playing the alphabet game on road trips, where you need to find letters of the alphabet in their correct order all over the road.

Some vanity plates, like ICUFFEM can be snappy and fun, perhaps proclaiming an occupation as a police officer or shirt maker.
Others, like MAMMERS or METLIKA, are not immediately apparent in their meaning.
Still others are simply good ole fun.
What do you think?
Snappy. It’s great that folks can extend their personalities to their license plates.
Crappy. They are called vanity plates because people who get them must be vain.
Snappy – but I wouldn’t pay extra for one.
Crappy. I don’t even notice them because I’m too busy cutting off the people in front of me and driving 22 miles over the speed limit.
What would your vanity plate say if you had one?
What’s the dumbest/coolest vanity plate you’ve seen.
Snappy and crappy. Snappy cause they are a lot of fun, crappy cause they cost 50 bucks every year. With 17 vehicles I can only afford one. And the old ones were snappy pressed steel made by some inmates and the crappy ones now are decals, hardly worth fifty bucks. My favorite has always been “BQQBS” after my sisters double queen beauty salon school.
Mornin’ Rynski! Some I’ve seen are quite clever-others must be an inside joke, as they have no apparent meaning, which takes the fun out of it. So breaking it down percentage wise(I keep extensive records of such things)10%-snappy!…the rest, what the heck are you thinking…My favorite? DEPORTM
I’ll say ‘snappy’ because they’re fun to read and some are like a puzzle you have to try and figure out.
I agree… I love trying to figure them out! I hate when I can’t!! So I usually make something up… like Southern Tenants Farmers Union!!
Mornin’ All!
Farley – the new ones are DECALS, really? yuck. some things are so much better when inmates make them, like cakes with files in them (haha). BQQBS is very funny – kinda reminds me of MAMMERS. P.S. Why do you have 17 vehicles?
RadMax – I must thank you profusely for breaking down the snappy and crappy into percentages. Mine would be more like 72.3 percent snappy and the rest crappy. DEPORTM is great!
AZMouse – yes, they can be fun when they are like a puzzle – but when they puzzle me too long i miss my turn (hence the 27.7 percent crappy).
I say snappy.
Although I have to say my attitude was crappy not too long ago about the people who run it.
As some of you may remember, not too long ago a state denied a woman her license plate that read “ILVTOFU” She was a tofo-eating vegetarian, but some people might take it wrong so they didn’t let her have it.
Not too long ago I was sitting behind someone who had the license plate “STFU PLS.” Those who IM, text or game a lot, probably know what this means. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STFU )
I think if they are going to deny people plates because they might be taken wrong, then they need to include some worldly internet users on their decency squad because I’ve seen plenty others like this.
Hmmm… Southern Tenants Farmers Union?? Please!
so true, bjay – i forgot about the tofu woman. we may eventually have a whole “freedom of expression” versus “decency squad” issue going on. the squad would have to work triple time to not only catch anything like the one about the farmer’s union (haha) but also foreign words, phrases and numeral combinations (LOV666) that could be offensive.
I say mostly snappy! I’d give it 79.6%! I have to admit, I broke down and got one when I finally got my dream car (had been dreaming of it for 20 years!) about 5 years ago. But, I only pay $25 per year… and it is not a decal! Yeah! Anyway, I have a penchant for spicy things (grow all my own peppers!) and it is a hot little red sports car, so the family voted and my vanity plate is SPCYHOT… I know, very vain…
Finally, something for which the name is very aptly descriptive – “VANITY” plates. Of course, “NARCISSIST” plates would be equally appropriate. Regardless of what is written on them, they all say, “I have enough money to throw some away announcing my unique personality to strangers”.
Today’s word is “Solipsistic”.
solipsistic is a beautiful word…too bad it wouldn’t fit on a vanity plate…
yeah can you see the decal in “wakeboard” and the pressed plate in “alleycat” in the above snappy snaps. And Ryn, I have 17 vehicles because those pesky illegals keep leaving them in my driveway.
My captcha was “ameri uprising”.
oh, yuck! now i see the decal-ism in WKBOARD vs. ALICAT – how chintzy. that’s nice people keep leaving you vehicles – you can take them apart and have automatic art supplies! let me know if you need to get rid any of those giant auto springs (haha).
i luv vanity plates. have had several. in california i had AKTRISS. while staying at a motel one day i found someone taking a picture of my plate. i now live in arizona and have the same name. i luv it. although i no longer act, at 73 i can still conjure up wonderful memories.
good for you! joan-carol (aka AKTRISS)! was it me taking a picture of it? haha…
