This fun Odd Pueblo feature asks the audience to rate a trend, topic or sighting of something around town: is it snappy or crappy?
The last snappy or crappy, a gun-toting mailbox, got mixed reviews. Folks liked that it was an effort at cleverness, but not that it was unkempt.
Several folks also voted crappy on a bugged-out VW bug posted many moons ago – but now we got the Volkswagen’s big sister: an awesome Volkswagen bus.
Judging from my calling it awesome, you can bet I think this thing is groovy. Check out the slide show, featuring six ways of looking at a VW bus.

The couple that owned this beautiful bus was also fun – and definitely full of the hippie vibe. When I told them I’d send them a link to their VW when I posted it, they said they had no computer.
One of my friends, too, has a VW bus decked in peace signs. He may not have the hippie vibe, however, as his bus is parked between his Harley Davidson motorcycle and an old Ford pickup outfitted with a gun rack and NRA stickers.
What do you think?

Snappy!
It’s decorated tastefully (except for the pot leaves) and isn’t over the top or an eyesore. Plus, purple’s a great color. It’s also in better shape than most of the ‘six-packs you see cruising around.
And kids that play the ‘slug-bug’ game know that six-packs are worth more points!
good vote! from the flowers to the purple, the dragonfly to the peace sign (and ignoring the pot leaves), this thing has got it all wrapped up!
i didn’t know vw buses were worth more in slug bug – how many extra points?
I’ll have to ask my son when he wakes up for school (five minutes before he’s suppose to be there. lol)
I’ll say six points, since the kids call it a six pack, but I’m not sure?
At least the pot leaves are indiscreet….
wake him up special to ask – hahha – kidding!
it would ruin his day. i think decked out buses should get DOUBLE whatever the normal bus tally is.
As we thought…slug bugs are one point, but a six pack is worth six points.
thanks!…and a decked-out one is worth 12!
Mornin’ Rynski and Az. This puppy is much cooler than that rusting bucket o’ bolts last time. I’ve seen this baby around town, very well taken care of.
Az, my daughter KILLS me at slugbug already. Please don’t tell her the vans count too! 🙂
hiya radmax – was WONDERING when you’d comment. thought you were blown away by the vw bus’s beauty and maybe fell off your chair and hit your head and had to be rushed to the hospital.
glad that’s not the case.
Nah, nothin’ as easy as that, Rynski. 🙂
Hi Maxxie!
Yes, the vw buses are worth a whopping six points! 🙂
LINDSEY!!!! LINDSEY!!!!!!! SIX POINTS!
You gals always stick together…you’re cruel az. 🙂
Super snappy! I probably wouldn’t drive one myself, but these folks seem to fully enjoy owning one! Very cool, I say.
Makes me want to snazz-up my little car…right now it’s just a boring ol’ white! 😛
very cool, indeed! hey, i got some black spray paint for your white car if you want…(hahah)!
I voted snappy, but with reservations. The VW logo on the front altered to form a peace sign is definitely authentic of the period, as are the bright colors, the sun and most of the other graphics . On the other hand, it was rare to actually see “Peace/Love” written out on a VW bus anytime after, say, 1965 and it would be decidely unhip to use a phrase from a Broadway musical (Age of Aquarius). Only someone who was looking to get busted would put pot leaves on their vehicle.
Nonetheless, the spirit is there and it is to be applauded, even if some minor details are askew. I wouldn’t complain if the streets were crawling with them.
thanks for you comments and vote, leftfield. if i see them again, i’ll tell them to head your way for some tips on how to make it more authentic. you should be a retro appraiser!
The owners should be careful, or the Tucson police might confiscate it as Drug Paraphernalia (after a 6 month investigation of course).
Just another reason that we need more police on the street.
hahahhaha
Snappy! I learned to drive in a VW bus – vroom! vroom! – I loved it!
thanks for your vote! and what a cool way to learn to drive.
Snappy, of course. Peaceniks and their symbolism was very in during the Viet Nam War days. I always liked Janice Joplin’s fancy VW ride(a Porche). Thought it was really cool then, and still do(And I still miss Janice & Jimi, and all the rest. Substance abuse has a very high price.).

Cool car picture!
And B.T.W. that’s a neat contrast with the military logos in the background.
yaay! another snappy! …and yes, i thought that was a fun juxtaposition myself! the couple was shopping at miller’s surplus when i spotted them.
LOVE IT!!! Lived in one similar – back in the day… just don’t tell my kids! LOL
wow – living in one must be a gas (excuse the pun).
hope yours had beaded curtains and shag interior.
