This fun Odd Pueblo feature asks the audience to rate a trend, topic or sighting of something around town: is it snappy or crappy?
The last snappy or crappy, fake and real bilingual signs, caused quite a stir.
The latest snappy or crappy promises to be much more appetizing: playing with food.

The very happy bread photo was submitted by reader Tami.
“It’s my quirky thing I do for my kids when I make them a sandwich,” she wrote in an e-mail.
Mustard smiley faces on bread are wholly snappy, adding a fun touch to what may normally be a mundane sandwich, especially if the sandwich is packed something boring like iceberg lettuce.
Other snappy ways to play with food include drawing on the disposable rinds of oranges and grapefruit, arranging waffles and sausage into an imitation Dali and creating apple head old people dolls out of rotten and dried-out apples.
Other folks, however, go into overkill when playing with food – like using a military issue combat K-Bar knife to cut a sandwich. While this weapon is specifically designed for marines, a person who shall remain anonymous used it to slice bread and pickles.

Even though using a colossal knife to slice a sandwich may be akin to using a chain saw to carve a turkey, it’s still snappy because the food is still edible.
Folks who play with food and end up wasting the food are engaging in crappiness.

When I was a kid, my Dad made me giant “D” pancakes (for Dianne) and when we were full, he made the leftover batter into doggie-bone shapes to give to the dogs. I continued that tradition when my kids were little.
Food can be fun!
I agree, AZMouse – so many ways to make food fun for kids – and pets. How cool you got giant “D” pancakes! Sweet. I also like the airplane game, where you ZOOM food into a kid’s mouth. I used it on Sawyer after his stomach operation when he had no interest in eating but had to anyway. I still use ZOOM to give him and Phoebe special treats.
Mornin’ Rynski! Anybody who would use a K-bar on a pickle is definitely unstable…this wouldn’t have anything to do with the loon who takes you to graveyards and condemned houses, would it? PS-my daughter loves it when I come up with something creative, food wise. So a big snappy!

Pancakes, ANYTHING with bacon and steak..(heads up guys, no cheap date here) She loves cereal too. Can’t do much with the steak, thank goodness she doesn’t put ketchup on it. Most of the things she likes make it pretty easy. PS-her nickname is Fidget, so if I can slip that in somehow it’s a sure smiler.
Sounds like my youngest son as far as taste in food. He was the pickiest darn eater, but a bacon fanatic! When he was little and I was trying to get him to eat something different, I always told him it was ‘new bacon’, and he’s eat it…or if I told him I got the recipe from Emeril! lol

When I was a kid, my mom would make me Mickey Mouse pancakes!
I also remember a time when she made some green scrambled eggs…which didn’t really get eaten. Maybe it was the green…
Ha! My mom did up green milk and green mashed potatoes for St. Patty’s Day. I think they did get eaten – with glee. But our family sometimes has strange habits (haha).

You will be sad to know that we ran out of mustard and opened a new one. The new one has a bigger whole which makes it extremely challenging to make the smiley faces on the bread. So, I am not as popular as I was once before. The new mustard blobs on the bread. My son (9) says “Mom, that’s not a smiley face!”. Yeah, I know 🙁

Also how funny about the new mustard bottle because I was tempted to add a photo of my own version of happy mustard bread but the bottle had a giant, globby opening and it wouldn’t work properly. Just say the bread is extra happy with a big FAT smile.

As long as the food doesn’t try to sneak in a furin name when we live in Amerca I think its fine.
Really bugs me when they call things sufflet and chorizo. There needs to be a national food language.
