Odd Pueblo: Snappy or crappy year end special

In honor of the arrival of the brand new year and the old thing that just passed, I’ve looked through my photo archives and found one photo from each month that merits a snappy or crappy vote from you gorgeous TucsonCitizen.com readers.

As you may know, this fun Odd Pueblo feature asks the audience to rate a trend, topic or sighting of something around town: is it snappy or crappy? Have fun deciding, and please don’t be swayed by my own votes, which I’ve included in the captions.

May your New Year be blessed with a lot of the snappy and little to no crappy.

What photo is the snappiest? The crappiest?

Is New Year’s Eve the crappiest holiday?

    Hi Ryn!! Happy New Year!
I vote that New Years Eve is EXTRA SUPER Snappy because it just so happens to be my birthday. So, imho there is absolutely, without a doubt, NOTHING crappy about this day! 😉

      heya jenna!
well, happy birthday! how awesome! hope the day – and new year – brings you and yours all the fun, joy and beautiful things you deserve.
…your birthday is also quite easy for folks to remember – and you always get a holiday the following day. good day you picked to be born, haha.

        Thank you Ryn!
Well, if you want to get technical, my mom had to have a C-section when I was born, and the Dr’s gave her a choice. She chose this day (as opposed to New Years day) because she wanted the tax deduction. I’ve been “used” since the day I was born, hahaha. 😛
It’s always a good time on my birthday…never a dull moment!

oh that’s too funny! a tax deduction baby – you’re cool, and profitable! hahahaha.
if she picked new year’s day she may have had the horror of being photographed and put on the front page of a newspaper while in her post-birth weariness as the papers often flock to hospitals on jan. 1 to report the “first baby born in the new year” – the moms often HATE that story, mainly because of the photo. hahah.

Happy pre-New year Rynski! Well, I generally agree with your snap/craps, but I have some issues with a couple… 😉
#4-I hate dead stuff in jars, always afraid I’ll open one up in dim light and take a swig by mistake. 🙂
#7-Cabbage patch dolls are not only bland and creepy, they have that nondescript ‘butter face’ which I loath.
#8-Thank the Lord someone had the foresight to lock this porta-crapper. Judging from the outside, I’m sure it is ten times more horrifying on the inside…ewwwwww!
Have a happy all you all!

happy ny eve to you, radmax!
#4. i love strange jarred things – even once had a whole jarred fossil collection of things that died around the house and job (when i worked in a pet store). but i fully understand your fear of swigging it. remember that joke about the scabs/potato chips?
#7. cabbage patch dolls are disgusting and yes! a perfect example of butter face – hahahah. i picked snappy for that one because the doll is imprisoned – and if you look closely there is a big dead bug on the windowsill.
#8. i was undecided on the porta-potty because they are, at times, a thing of necessity. seems weird, however, it was in a neighborhood alleyway.
and i thought FOR SURE you would disagree with the novelty button.

Hey Rynski, Charlie was a fine singer/songwriter… 😉 My gal even purchased a pair of his purported pants!(at least they look like someone died in them) 🙂

Best wishes to the rest of you that play here as well!
I am going to have decidedly snappy evening dancing to the groovy beat of Batucaxe!
My fave was the novelty serial killer button – truly bizzare!

Captcha= saucepan conflicts  (interesting concept – sounds like a theme for Jerry Springer!)

thanks for the well wishes – and what fun it sounds you’ll have on your snappy eve. i heard batucaxe is awesome – they also have very fine photo galleries on their website.
enjoy! and so glad you, too, are a fan of the novelty serial killer button. less hassle and easier to enjoy than the serial killer trading cards, for sure.
may your new year be devoid of any saucepan conflicts.

    Happy New Years Eve!!

Although I know it isn’t ‘politically correct’, I like the serial killer collectables. They too, unfortunately, are a part of our history in this country.
    #1 IS snappy, cuz it’s a cat.
#3 is snappy to me too, for it’s slight retro look and for nastalgia quality.
#4 is only snappy if they are fakes. Even freaks deserve a decent funeral….
#7 Looks like my daughters old cabbage patch doll. “Hang in there, Frida Corrina. I won’t rest until I find you and save you!!!!”

cool you’re on board with the serial killer button. twisted and weird but yes, gotta be snappy.
i’m kinda wary of #3, even though you are correct that it does have that funky and fun retro/nostalgic feel, because the clowns look very angry as if the food they are selling will poison you.
#4 – i think it’s even BETTER than a funeral for dead things to be on display. this way they can be revered for years to come.
#7 – oh, i do hope! you find frida corrina! hahahahah

Our Japanese culture has a “maneki neko” good luck cat displayed in businesses and homes.  This particular plump ceramic cat in photo #1 may be a “cousin”, but I’m unsure.  Do you remember which restaurant it was displayed in?  Would not be considered crappy in our culture.

Carolyn, do you know of anywhere here in town I could get a traditional Japanese good luck cat?

      hiya carolyn,
the gorgeous feline on display was, i believe, snapped in the healthy japenese eatery on campbell. Yoshimatsu means yum! really dig their food, the ambiance and the fun decor. they sell lots of little knick-knacks and such, azmouse, maybe you can check for a lucky cat there.
always loved the lucky cats. they look so dang happy!

Buns-O-Steel! Hilarious Mouse! OK, I’ll be waiting to hear from you, chopsticks in hand . . .
I danced a lot this evening! Batucaxe was excellent and once again, rocked the house! The audience participated fully as Yarrow King got up and directed us all in some fine Afro-Brazilian style dance moves. I watched bands before and after and while they were all competent, no one else had people participating like they did.
First captcha of the year = outgoing insurance (curious)
