Some may dream of riches. Others may dream of Jeannie. Local guy Andrew Farley dreamed of the Far-log.

Andrew Farley with his Far-log/Ryn Gargulinski
The Far-log is a self-contained campfire, a fire log that works on the concept of convection.
Thanks to a hole down the center of the log, the wood burns from in the inside out, making it safer than a scattered campfire and longer-burning than your average log.
First developed in 2008, the Far-log has come a long way. Farley created an easy fuse lighting system and even branched into Far-log key chains based on the gas station restroom key holders. It doesn’t get much cooler than that.
The ideas keep on burning.

Currently made of cottonwood, mesquite and a variety of wood in various shapes and sizes, Farley is working with a friend in Guatemala to create the Tiki Far-log made of palm trees.
Far-logs work well for cooking, especially for hot dogs, corn, marshmallows and the cow hearts Farley likes to feed his dog. They can heat up the whole backyard with the handy Johnson Attachment (JA) and make a fine centerpiece for any burning ritual.
Break out that sage.

Is the Far-log the greatest thing since sliced bread?
What other cool inventions have you seen lately?
Interesting…..
Seems like a smart dude. I hope it’s a success for him. I can definitely see using that when camping.
yes, far-logs are very interesting – they are the campfires of the future! haha. i tested one that was dandily lit for at least four hours and it was a fairly small log. only drawback is initial smoke, but that dissipates in about 20 mins.
that’s not even enough time for nosy nabes to call the fire dept – haha.
Great idea Farley! Mornin’ Rynski! I dig the fez Farley! What a great way to heat up a dutch oven with dinner out in the tullies.
I wondered where Farley has been…nice to know he was working on his invention and not spending all his time guarding the secret location of the Moondance… 😉
Johnson attachment…hahahaha!
PS-I did invent an item to help out my installers at work. It was some curved iron pipe with clips designed to attach to the outside of a scissor lift and hold large rolls of insulation. It kept the material out of the lift, giving the guys a lot more room to work. Worked pretty well, ’till someone absconded with the dang things. Back to the drawing board…
hiya radmax!
in addition to the far-log and fire extinguisher, farley came equipped with a whole host of cool hats. yes, he’s been hard at work at the far-log factory.
cool on your invention – too bad some idjit stole it. people. can’t they come up with their own ideas?
i love when folks expand their minds through invention…also like how many very cool inventions were created from ‘eureka’ moments.
my coolest invention was prob the rynchimes, and that was someone else’s idea to begin with – i just had to make them.
But the rynchimes are cool….still gotta get me some.
Now get to work on some cool mosaics. lol
yes! haven’t forgotten mosiacs! hahahah.
You see, if we could focus our energy on inventing things as eminently useful as the Far-Log instead of creative new ways to vaporize human beings and poison the planet, a better place this would be.
I like to have a fire in the fireplace on winter nights.  I don’t much like having to get up every twenty minutes to work the fire until it becomes ready for the bigger logs. I can see this being useful in that regard.
Andrew Farley for Mayor!Â
hahha! wholly agree, leftfield – on good energy spent on inventions – and andrew farley for mayor – hahah.
we could light up all of tucson with far-logs, cut down on heating bills. gas company sucks me dry all winter then the electric company does the same all summer.
i would encourage you to get a far-log or two for your fireplace. farley said he’d only pretty much charge cost of labor and wood – so it’s an excellent buy, too.
Heya Ryn! What a neat invention Farley came up with! It makes me crave some roasted marshmallows and a good ol’ campin’ trip! Oh, and loved the hat variety…my fav was the viking hat! 😛
(PS – Sorry I haven’t been around much…school is kicking my butt! This is finals week…and I can’t wait ’til it’s over. No more physics!)
hey jenna!
yes, you’ve been missed! thanks for chiming in on the far-log. it is neat-o. i’m def. going to take one camping – if my beau ever takes me camping (hint, hint…)
you know, i have never been camping save for some girl scout camp way back whenever where i chipped my tooth on a water pump and the fat troop leader was too busy eating twinkies to care.
anyway…def. grab a far-log for your marshmallows.
and good luck finishing the semester and finals – eek! you’ll do great – even in physics!
“you know, i have never been camping save for some girl scout camp way back”
This is perhaps the saddest thing I will hear today. Though I am old enough now that a night sleeping on the ground has all-day consequences, in years past I have walked and camped over much of AZ. I highly recommend it.
i agree, it’s very sad.
but i thought it sadder, still, that the troop leader didn’t care about my chipped tooth -haha
17 years in new york city had me stapled into the cityscape – the thought of camping never even entered my mind. but NOW it does – and i will def. follow your recommendation soon. dogs will be coming along, OF COURSE! there is too much beauty in AZ. it would be a sin not to explore it.
My family would go camping a lot when I was a kid! It started off with good ol’ tents and campfires…and over the years it morphed into having spiffy RV’s with living rooms, 3 bedrooms, and full size kitchens. OK ok, that was an exaggeration, but still…RV’s do not equal camping. 😛
And talking about Girl scouts! I too had a not-so-great experience with them…I sold enough cookies to earn some fine prizes, and I never did get those prizes! It ruined the entire experience for me. 😛
awww, how chintzy on the cookie prize holdout. what a shame – and disappointment for a kid. i recall having dad take the girl scout cookie orders to work so he could be one of those annoying coworkers who always want you to buy something from them – haha.
actually, i’ve gotten some really cool jewelry that way…
and good for you on camping – both the real tent camping and the pseudo motel on wheels type – hahah.
Nothing like camping out by a lake somewhere (I like Apache) fishing, hiking, swimming and not shaving my legs for a couple days! lol
Exactly AZ!! When I lived in New Mexico, we’d go camping near this big, beautiful lake…rightfully called Bonita Lake. Ahh…I miss those days…
I don’t do it as much as I used to, or I’d like to, but it’s the best.
“RV’s do not equal camping.”… “We need to get away from it all, so let’s load up the tv, bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen and rough it!’…
defeats the whole purpose, doesn’t it Jenna.
…and Rynski, tell that city-slicker beau o’ yours to get you out in the great wide open for a change, can’t believe you haven’t partaken of our Az outdoor experience. It’s about the only thing worth living here for.
i’ll tell ’em radmax – i hope to go this summer – sans RV – hahaha.
also think CLIMATE makes it worth living in AZ. oh, and coyotes, esp. when they are playing decoy coyote – hahah
You can usually find our climate outside… 😉
And plenty of cool bugs and tarantulas to play with. I love to let them cruise around on my arms…they’re so cute! 🙂
hahah – i, too, am fond of tarantulas. don’t like buzzing bugs – but don’t mind caterpillars (it’s a trade-off)…love spiders in general.
As Dustin Hoffman said in the great movie “Ishtar”, “I gotta walk off this high”. I’m riding high on all of the attention, too much for this Introvert. Thanx for all of your support and you guys can camp out at the MoonDance Saloon anytime you want, Ryn has the keys, and you all have your names on some FAR-LOGS reserved for you, Much Love, Farley.
Lucky other is the captcha
DANG!!!!
That’s you?!!?
Wow, I had no idea….cool beans, Andrew!
yaaay! the inventor himself chimed in – too quick to get his autograph…hahah. thanks again, farley – and to mrs. farley. it was a gas meeting you both – and your cow-heart-eating canine – haha.
AZMouse – how did you not know farley was farley? hahah
moondance here we come…
I know….I’m such a dork. I just didn’t put two and two together….
nah, you’re not a dork!
cool you know now farley is farley. he’s quite the inventor. he even came up with some wallpaper paste inventions….
